Novecom has been named a 2026 Financial Review Sustainability Leader, national winner in the Small Organisation category, recognised for SureWaste.
The Financial Review Sustainability Leaders, presented by BDO, recognise organisations driving measurable environmental change. Entries were judged on the significance of the work, the impact achieved both inside and beyond the organisation, and its durability over time.
Across health, mining, agriculture and industry, a great deal of waste goes unmeasured. Materials are ordered, opened and discarded without anyone knowing the true cost, in dollars or in carbon. SureWaste closes that gap. It uses bin-mounted sensors and AI to identify items as they are discarded, then connects that data back to purchasing decisions, so operators can see where waste is happening and act on it.

SureWaste grew out of the same principle behind Novecom’s environmental monitoring work: turn sensing and data into decisions clients can act on. It was developed through a two-year partnership with NSW Health, HealthShare and eHealth, funded under the Small Business Innovation Research program.
The recognition reflects the work of Simon Bull and Sarah Boutchard, who led the thinking and the engineering behind SureWaste, and the partners who backed it.
