Novecom Joins NSW Lean Manufacturing Pilot Program

Driving smarter operations—for ourselves and our clients.

Novecom recently took part in the NSW Government’s Lean Manufacturing Pilot Program, a targeted initiative designed to help regional manufacturers identify and implement lean principles to improve productivity, reduce waste, and strengthen competitiveness.

Our team participated in the program’s audit process, which was facilitated by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development. The experience was described by the team as “invaluable,” offering fresh insights into how we can continue to optimise our internal operations while delivering even greater value to our clients.

What is Lean Manufacturing?

Lean manufacturing is a globally recognised methodology focused on continuous improvement, waste reduction, and maximising value for customers. Originating from the Toyota Production System, lean principles are now widely adopted across industries—from automotive and aerospace to electronics and environmental technology.

Key principles include:

  • Identify customer value – Focus on what your customer truly needs.
  • Map the value stream – Spot and remove steps that don’t add value.
  • Create flow – Ensure work moves smoothly without delays.
  • Establish pull systems – Produce only when there’s demand.
  • Pursue continuous improvement – Always look for ways to do better.

What Did the Audit Involve?

The Lean Manufacturing Pilot Program audit was designed to:

  • Assess current operational practices
  • Identify areas for efficiency improvement
  • Estimate the cost and impact of implementing lean principles
  • Provide tailored recommendations for process optimisation

For Novecom, this meant a deep dive into our workflows, systems, and resource allocation. The audit helped us pinpoint opportunities to streamline internal processes, reduce inefficiencies, and enhance cross-functional collaboration.

Why It Matters

At Novecom, we’re known for helping clients make smarter decisions through real-time environmental monitoring and electronic safety solutions. But we also apply the same mindset internally—constantly looking for ways to improve how we work, deliver, and grow.

Participating in the Lean Manufacturing Pilot Program aligns perfectly with our mission to:

  • Operate at peak efficiency
  • Deliver high-quality, reliable solutions
  • Support sustainable growth across the industries we serve

Looking Ahead

We’re grateful to the NSW Government and our Program Facilitator Geoff Yeatman from Orbiz for their support and guidance. The insights gained from this initiative will help us continue to evolve as a business—and as a trusted partner to our clients.
